Wilderness & Expedition Basecamp
Fellrise is a trail directory built for people planning a real long-distance trek, not a scroll-and-forget travel blog. Every route in the directory is a real, existing trail — the distances, elevation figures, and permit details are drawn from the trail’s actual published statistics, not invented for the page.
What’s actually under the hood
The four field tools aren’t decorative widgets — each one runs a real, published formula:
- Elevation Profile Lab — a corrected Naismith’s Rule (with a Tranter-style fitness adjustment) for trek-time estimates, plus the International Standard Atmosphere lapse rate for temperature by altitude.
- Alpine Risk Radar — the joint Environment Canada / US National Weather Service 2001 wind-chill index, a barometric oxygen-percentage calculation, and the 5-tier EAWS/North American avalanche danger scale.
- Pack Weight Calculator — arithmetic over a realistic ultralight-backpacking gear list.
- Itinerary Builder — the same trek-time model chained across a multi-day plan, exportable as a real GPX 1.1 track.
Who this is for
Trekkers comparing routes across continents who want honest numbers before they commit weeks of planning and a plane ticket to one trail over another. If you’re weighing a certified guide, satellite communicator rental, or evacuation insurance, the trip-request form on each trail page routes that question straight to our basecamp team.
This site is demo content for a WordPress theme, so “our basecamp team” is fictional — but the trail data, the physics, and the tools are all real.
